Editorial policy
Updated
Where do the facts come from?
In order of preference:
- Official documentation from the Indonesian authority that runs the process: the Directorate General of Immigration (eVisa, All Indonesia), the Bali Provincial Government (Love Bali levy) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (e-CD).
- Government travel advice, mainly GOV.UK, which publishes in full and is reusable under the Open Government Licence. Where advice is written for one nationality (for example British passports), we say so.
- Technical references such as the IANA time zone database for Bali's time zone.
We do not use other travel blogs, forums or AI summaries as sources for rules. When we mention what forums say, we label it as anecdote and do not treat it as evidence.
How are sources labeled?
Each guide ends with its sources: the publisher, the type of source (official documentation, government travel advice or technical reference), the date we checked it, the source's own update date where it shows one, and what we read (the full page, or only part of an interactive site).
What happens when we cannot verify something?
We leave it out or say plainly that it is unverified. For example, the site does not list customs allowances or the visa extension fee because we could not read them on an official page. Where we make a judgment (such as counting your arrival day as day 1), it is labeled as our assumption.
Updates and corrections
- A script re-checks official pages for changes; changed sources trigger a review of the pages that cite them.
- The "Updated" date and the update history only change for substantive edits, such as a new fee, a new rule or a correction. Typo fixes do not count.
- Corrections are noted in the page's update history. Email info@balibackpackers.com to report one.
Review limits
Pages are not reviewed by lawyers, immigration officers or doctors. We do not publish health or legal advice beyond pointing you to official guidance.
Commercial independence
There are no affiliate links or sponsored placements on the site today. If affiliate links are added, they will be marked on the page, a disclosure page will explain them, and no partner will be able to pay for placement or influence what a guide says.
