Bali tourism levy: IDR 150,000, paid once, and who is exempt
The Bali tourist levy explained from the provincial government's own FAQ: how much, how often, where to pay safely, the QR voucher, and the exemptions.

In short
- Every foreign tourist in Bali pays IDR 150,000, once per trip, before leaving Indonesia.
- Pay on the official Love Bali site (lovebali.baliprov.go.id) before you fly, or at counters at Bali's airport and ports, or at registered hotels and attractions.
- Payment is cashless only: cards, bank transfer, virtual account, UnionPay or QRIS.
- Your proof is a QR voucher sent to the email you enter, so type it carefully.
- Exemptions cover set visa and permit types, for example KITAS and student visas; ordinary tourists are not exempt.
The Bali tourism levy is a charge the Bali provincial government sets on foreign tourists. The official site, Love Bali, says the money helps preserve Bali’s nature, culture and heritage.[Love Bali] Here is what it costs, where to pay and who is exempt, from the government’s own FAQ.
How much is the Bali tourism levy?
IDR 150,000 per person.[Love Bali FAQ] It is a flat amount, whatever the length of your stay.
| Travelers | Levy |
|---|---|
| 1 | IDR 150,000 |
| 2 | IDR 300,000 |
| 4 | IDR 600,000 |
If you pay with a card in another currency, the payment page shows a fixed exchange rate when you pay, and your bank may add its own charges.[Love Bali]
How often do I pay it?
Once. The FAQ says the levy is paid one time while traveling in Bali, before you leave Indonesia.[Love Bali FAQ]
Where and how can I pay the levy safely?
The FAQ lists three ways, all cashless:[Love Bali FAQ]
- Online, before you arrive, on lovebali.baliprov.go.id. This is the way the government strongly encourages, to make arrival easier.
- At payment counters at the airport and ports in Bali.
- At registered endpoints while you travel: hotels, travel agents and tourist attractions registered in the Love Bali system.
Accepted methods are Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB cards, bank transfer, virtual account, UnionPay and QRIS.[Love Bali FAQ]
What do I get after paying?
A levy voucher: a QR code sent to the email address you entered.[Love Bali FAQ] The payment page asks you to make sure that address works. It also checks for duplicate payments before you start a new one, and notes it can take 10 minutes for the payment status to update.[Love Bali]
If the email address was wrong, the FAQ says payments can be checked against your passport details.[Love Bali FAQ]
Who is exempt from the levy?
The FAQ lists these exemptions:[Love Bali FAQ]
- holders of diplomatic and official visas
- crew members on transportation vehicles
- holders of a KITAS or KITAP stay permit card
- holders of family unification visas
- holders of student visas
- holders of golden visas
- holders of other visas
Golden visas and “other visas” must apply for the exemption through Love Bali. The other groups just show their card to the officer.[Love Bali FAQ] A tourist on a visa on arrival or e-VOA is not on this list, so expect to pay.
Does the levy apply to cruise passengers?
Yes. Cruise passengers can pay individually online, or as a group through a registered cruise agent.[Love Bali FAQ]
What is the legal basis?
The FAQ cites the Law Number 15 of 2023 on Bali Province, and Bali Provincial Regulation No. 6 of 2023 as amended by Regulation No. 2 of 2025. It also cites Governor Regulation No. 25 of 2025 and Governor Decree No. 699/03-L/HK/2025.[Love Bali FAQ] GOV.UK also lists the levy, at IDR 150,000, in its entry requirements for Indonesia.[GOV.UK entry]
What the FAQ does not say: it gives no penalty for not paying. Forum posts claim checks are patchy; we found no official statement either way, so we do not repeat those claims.
Questions travelers ask
Is the Bali tourist levy legit?
Yes. It is run by the Bali provincial government through the Love Bali system, based on Bali Provincial Regulation No. 6 of 2023 as amended by Regulation No. 2 of 2025. Pay only on lovebali.baliprov.go.id or at the official counters and registered endpoints.
Do I pay the levy again if I go to the Gili Islands or Lombok and come back?
The official FAQ says the levy is paid one time while traveling in Bali, before you leave Indonesia. It does not discuss leaving Bali for another island and returning within the same trip. If that applies to you, keep your voucher and ask Love Bali.
Is the levy the same as the visa fee?
No. The levy (IDR 150,000) is a Bali provincial charge. The visa on arrival (IDR 500,000) is a national immigration fee. Most tourists pay both.
