Bali visa on arrival and e-VOA: cost, 30 days and the one extension
What the 30-day visa on arrival covers, what it costs in rupiah, buying it online or at the airport, the one 30-day extension, and how to avoid visa scams.

In short
- The visa on arrival (VoA) lasts 30 days, is single entry, and costs IDR 500,000 per person at the airport (cash or card).
- You can apply online first (the e-VOA) on evisa.imigrasi.go.id. GOV.UK advises applying at least a week before you leave, and the visa must be approved before you land.
- It can be extended once, for 30 more days, but only before your first 30 days run out.
- Overstaying is fined IDR 1,000,000 a day, according to GOV.UK, and can end in deportation.
- Use only the official eVisa site. Agents and lookalike sites charge more, and some take money for nothing.
Most people flying into Bali for a holiday use the 30-day visa on arrival. You can buy it at the airport, or apply for the electronic version, the e-VOA, before you fly. This guide covers what it allows, what it costs and what to do on day 30.
Who can use the visa on arrival?
The visa on arrival is meant for short visits. GOV.UK lists tourism, visiting family or friends, some business activities and official meetings, buying goods and official government visits.[GOV.UK entry]
It is not meant for every kind of trip. GOV.UK says it is not suitable for all business activities, volunteering, influencer work or creating commercial online content.[GOV.UK entry]
Which passports qualify is decided by Indonesia and differs by country. The official eVisa site has a selector where you pick your passport and the purpose of your visit. It also notes that visa exemption is available for ASEAN nationals.[eVisa site]
How much does the Bali visa on arrival cost?
The 30-day visa on arrival costs IDR 500,000 per person, payable by cash or card, according to GOV.UK.[GOV.UK entry] We quote fees in rupiah because that is how they are set. The amount in your own currency depends on the exchange rate and on your card’s charges.
| Travelers | Visa on arrival (IDR 500,000 each) |
|---|---|
| 1 | IDR 500,000 |
| 2 | IDR 1,000,000 |
| 4 | IDR 2,000,000 |
If you apply online, the eVisa site lets you pay by SIMPONI or by Mastercard, Visa or JCB card.[eVisa site] It shows the final online price before you pay. We have not checked whether card or service charges are added there.
Should I get the e-VOA online or buy the visa at the airport?
Both give you the same 30-day stay. The differences are timing and risk:
- Online (e-VOA): apply on evisa.imigrasi.go.id. GOV.UK advises applying at least one week before you leave. The visa must be approved before you arrive. A visa approved after you enter Indonesia is not valid.[GOV.UK entry] One application can cover up to 5 people.[eVisa site]
- At the airport: GOV.UK says most of the main airports and seaports issue visas on arrival. You need a passport that meets the entry rules and proof of an onward or return journey.[GOV.UK entry]
How long can I stay, and how do I extend?
The visa on arrival gives you 30 days, single entry. It can be extended once, for another 30 days. You extend at an immigration office in Indonesia, or on the eVisa site if you applied online.[GOV.UK entry]
The extension has to be done within your first 30 days. Leaving it until after day 30 counts as an overstay.[GOV.UK entry]
How the days are counted. Neither GOV.UK nor the parts of the immigration site we could read say whether your arrival day counts. Several Indonesian university visa notes say it does, so you should leave by day 30. Our planner assumes the same. It is the cautious reading, but it is our inference, not an official rule. If your dates are tight, ask immigration.
Worked example. You land on Dec 10. Counting Dec 10 as day 1, day 30 is Jan 8. Want to stay until Jan 20? Extend before Jan 8. One extension takes you to day 60, Feb 7.
What does overstaying cost?
GOV.UK gives the overstay fine as IDR 1,000,000 a day. Using the wrong visa or overstaying can also lead to prosecution, detention and deportation at your own cost.[GOV.UK entry]
How do I avoid visa scams?
GOV.UK warns that fake visa agents take money and then fail to provide a visa, or supply the wrong one. That can leave you overstaying without knowing it.[GOV.UK entry] In our own search checks (Oct 23, 2026), paid agent sites ranked near the official eVisa site, so look closely at the address before you pay.
- Type the address yourself: evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The real address ends in .go.id.
- See our register of official links for the other government sites you need.
- The All Indonesia arrival card is a separate, free form. Nobody should charge you for it.
What else do I need before landing?
The visa is one of four things to sort out before you land:
- Visa: e-VOA online, or buy the visa on arrival at the airport.
- The free All Indonesia arrival card, within 72 hours before you land.
- The Bali tourism levy, IDR 150,000 per person.
- A passport with enough validity, and proof of your onward travel.
Questions travelers ask
Is the visa on arrival free for Australians, Britons or Americans?
No. GOV.UK states that British citizens must have a visa and that the 30-day visa on arrival costs IDR 500,000. Visa exemption is offered to ASEAN nationals according to the eVisa site. For any other passport, check the visa selector on evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
Can I use the visa on arrival to work remotely or make paid content?
GOV.UK says the visa on arrival is not suitable for all business activities, volunteering, influencer work or creating commercial online content, and that you may need a different visa for that.
What happens if my e-VOA is still pending when I fly?
GOV.UK warns that a visa approved after you enter Indonesia is not valid. If it is not approved before you travel, you may only be able to get a 30-day visa on arrival at the airport.
